The Cubby Hole closes up

Posted in News with tags , on June 18, 2010 by keelykov

Brisbane’s favourite indie spot, Cubby Hole, will sing its last hurrah on the 25th of June.

The Fans Group run night will close up shop because management at Rosie’s have deciding to pursue other interests with the location.

The guys from The Fans Group released this statement:

The Cubby Hole promoters are looking into alternative venues for artists that have are booked to play in the next few weeks.

The organisers want to thank everyone who has been involved in the Cubby Hole. It’s been an honour to host such remarkable bands and artist such as Parades, Howl, Bus Driver, Andy Rourke, DZ and the many other talented artists.

Overall it’s been a great pleasure to provide an avenue for the music scene to witness all matter of bands, from indie to punk to experimental electro.

Apparently, though, you can’t keep a good dog, or indie night down, so keep your eye on www.fansclubnight.com for info on the Fans Groups new venue, which is already apparently in the works.

You don’t play hide and go seek with FANS, that’s a fact. Everyone knows that.

The Lost Weekend mustn’t have been told, because this week its been hiding good and proper, so proper in fact that many considered it gone for good. Lost, without a trace.

But no, Fans didn’t give up. No, they searched high and low for that weekend, and BAM, as if by magic, they found it! (Our guess, is that it was behind the door, a simple, yet oh so effective hiding spot).

So now that they have found it, what are they going to do with it? Well, Party I guess.

Fans are putting on a show for Brisbane folk upstairs and down at Rosies, when they bring Lou Barlow, Hawnay Troof, DZ, Monotonix and a gaggle of other rad acts together for The Lost And Found Weekend.

Taking place on Sunday 7th March, starting at 5:30pm, the weekend will set you back a clean $35 pre-sale

Line up as it looks right now (bands to be added)

Lou Barlow (US)
Monotonix (Israel)
Hawnay Troof (US)
DZ
Bus Driver (US)
Mt Augustus
Axxon
No Anchor

FANS turns 1 and hits the (Valley) Studio!

Posted in News with tags , on February 25, 2010 by keelykov

Have the nights seemed colder? The days seemed longer? Your lover seemed uglier?

Are you suffering from FANS withdrawals?

Here at Lost In Suburbia, we feel your pain.

Since its inception as a Brisbane trashy club night at the Alhambra where the G&T’s were first rate and after a few, so were the girls, to fighting MUM in Sydney for ultimate club domination, to the almost grown up corner hotel, and the Cubby Hole at Rosies, FANS and the Clubhouse have seen some pretty seedy sides of us all. And while they might have left a gaping hole in my liver and my wallet, without them, there is a big gaping hole in my heart.

So, it is with great pleasure that we announce the Return Of FANS!

Yep, you heard right, FANS and the Clubhouse are back and with better, more advanced plans (aka Deathstar 2), to make their new perminent home the most awesome, best, best, awesome place ever.

The boys will be moving into 610 Ann Street, Brisbane, where the Valley studios used to live. And, by sheer coincidence, The Clubhouse housewarming is also FANS first birthday! Brisbane (for indeed the entire city is invited) will celebrate by hosting one hell of a kick arse party (official hosting done by FANS), which is guaranteed  to leave you making out with some stranger in the gutter.

Oh yeah, and Jonathan Boulet will be there. So will Young Heretics, Megastick Fanfare and Strange Attractors.

Wanna go? Of Course you do! Get your tickets here!

Oh Dear, it’s going to be a very swanky night indeed…

Fans 1st Birthday

Fans returns!

Those indefatigable Fans lads are back again to host their wild, fashionable parties at Alhambra Lounge with the Villains of Wilhelm EP launch and Sydney’s Deep Sea Arcade single launch on February 26th.

Brisbane garage beasts, Villains of Wilhelm, launch their debut EP, ‘Music For Animals’ – a powerful and punctuating force of sexy garage rock, influenced by bands like The Hives and the Sex Pistols.

Sydney indie pop outfit, Deep Sea Arcade, tour their Triple J hit single, Lonely In Your Arms, a psychedelic poppy Beatles flavoured sound that has earned the five piece much recognition.

Joining the two are locals, Running Guns and The Sulphur Lights – two bands that are making their mark on the local Brisbane scene.

The Fans DJs keep the party kicking on late into the night – make sure you get in before it all sells out.

Tickets can be purchased online via oztix.com.au or on the door of the night for $15.00

Jonathan Boulet Announces National Tour

Posted in Australian Artists, Gigs, Tours with tags , on January 12, 2010 by keelykov

Jonathan Boulet

Sydney smart aleck Jonathan Boulet will kick off his virgin headline tour of Australia in February 2010 in support of his wondrously vivid self-titled debut record, out now on Modular Recordings.

The pied piper of bedroom pop will lead his band of the merriest men around the country for 14 of the best, kicking off at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on February 12 and snaking his way around the country before triumphantly crossing the finish line at Fans in Brisbane on March 13.

Since his emergence in late 2009 with the dashing life-affirming micro-symphony that is A Community Service Announcement and one of the most promising, self-assured debut albums of the year, Jonathan Boulet has slowly but surely converted the masses through a series of compelling, heavy energy live shows.

His joyous explosion of a debut was a feature album on Triple J, the video for A Community Service Announcement was very publicly endorsed by the one and only Kanye West (“Watch this it’s fucking amazing”), and his first ever tour was in support of fellow Modular do-gooders Tame Impala. In short, an excellent start to a potentially brilliant career!

The Jonathan Boulet Australian Tour will be the perfect chance to catch this lightning bolt of electric melody in full flight, tickets go on sale on Monday January 11th and the full run of dates is below.
