Posted in International Artists, New releases, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 1, 2012 by keelykov

The world’s best band* The Gaslight Anthem, premiered their new single 45 on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 on BBC1 last night… and it’s a freaking miracle.

The first single to be taken from their fourth studio album Handwritten, which will hit shelves July24th, 45 combined the melodic styling of American Slang with the heart wrenching tales of youth present on Sink Or Swim.

In short, this track is totes amazeballs. Seriously though. It’s incredible.

Annandale Hotel up for sale

Posted in News with tags , , , on March 28, 2011 by keelykov

Annandale Hotel

Sydney’s iconic music venue The Annandale Hotel is up for sale following the ten year reign of the Rule bothers.

Mathew and Daniel Rule brought live music back to Annandale in 2000 when they purchased the hotel from its then music depriving owners. Since then, the brothers have turned the Annandale into a live music hub – the likes of which have seen bands from humble Jager-uprising stature to Gaslight Anthem and Joan Jett grandeur grace its stage. No small feat for a couple of guys without any prior experience in rock n roll.

The sale will be the first publically offered sale of the inner-west home of music in over twenty years.

The Hotel also currently has DAs approval for redevelopment for the hotel and the Wok N Roll restaurant out the back – sounds like the Annandale is in for one hectic facelift. But will the sale and the changes improve the music icon? Or are we about to witness the decline of Sydney’s favourite live music venue?

No explanation yet as to why the Rule brothers are selling – maybe it’s just time to move on?

What do you think of the sale and proposed development plans?

The title track and first single from The Gaslight Anthem‘s third studio album, American Slang combines everything fans loved about The ’59 Sound with the vocal rawness of tracks from EP Senor & The Queen.

The video for American Slang was shot on location in New York and was directed by Kevin Custer who also directed the videos for The ’59 Sound and Great Expectations as well as Justin Bieber’s One Time clip.

Glastonbury Line up revealed: Minds around the world explode

Posted in News, Tours with tags , , , on April 16, 2010 by keelykov

It’s the week for line up announcements with Splendour In The Grass and Glastonbury both coming out within hours of each other.

For Glastonbury’s 40th year, Michael Eavis has pulled an entire warren of rabbits out of his hat, releasing a line up which destroys feeble music loving minds.

Headlining the three day festival will be U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder. The rest of the bill, though, is where it really starts to heat up! Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Flaming Lips, Vampire Weeknnd, Gaslight Anthem, Groove Armada, Mariachi El Bronx, The XX, Scissor Sisters, The Hold Steady, Laura Marling, Faithless, Slash, Orbital & MGMT all make the cut.

Australia has some pretty sweet representation in there as well with Temper Trap, Empire Of The Sun & The Middle East helping to ring in the 40th birthday of the festival.

The line up, in fact, is so intense that I fear it will break my poor little blog, so here, instead is where you can go to find everything you need to know about the line up which has been obviously touched by the gods.

Gaslight Anthem – American Slang

Posted in News with tags on March 24, 2010 by keelykov

Well, we thought yesterday was exciting with new Hold Steady, but today, today is a day to be remembered!

Here friends, is the new single from the greatest band in the world, Gaslight Anthem*.

The single is the first taken from new album American Slang, which is due for release 15th June 2010. The song seems to pick up where The 59 Sound left off with dirty guitars and anthem-esque choruses.

Fallon  told Paste magazine recently:

“American Slang is just what we do. That’s who we are. You’re presented with this American Dream and all these American possibilities — and then there’s the reality of what actually happens with your life.”

Take a listen and tell us what you think.

Ahh… Thank God for Jersey!

Track listing for American Slang:
1. American Slang
2. Stay Lucky
3. Bring It On
4. The Diamond Church Street Choir
5. The Queen of Lower Chelsea
6. Orphans
7. Boxer
8. Old Haunts
9. The Spirit Of Jazz
10. We Did It When We Were Young

*Yet to be disproved that they AREN’T the greatest band. Prove me wrong, I dare you.
