Tame Impala join MGMT for Sydney show

Perth psychedelic rockers Tame Impala have been named as support for MGMT’s sold out, one night only performance in Sydney on the 6th April.

Tame Impala’s first major mark on the music scene was their self-titled EP released in 2008 which spawned the hit single Half Full Glass of Wine. Their initial success paved the way for a nationwide tour in 2009 as well as numerous festival appearances including Southbound, Pyramid Rock and this year’s Big Day Out.

Tame Impala’s debut LP, tentatively titled InnerSpeaker, is scheduled for release later this year.

Audience members at the Metro Theatre show will be treated to a preview of MGMT’s latest songs taken from their upcoming sophomore release, titled Congratulations, along with enjoyable crowd favourites from Oracular Spectacular.

Congratulations is currently streaming live on MGMT’s official website (www.whoismgmt.com) and the response has been highly positive.  The album is due for release in Australia on Friday April 9.

The addition of Tame Impala promises nothing short of a musical feast sure to delight any indie-pop fanatic.

Unfortunately and not surprisingly, tickets to the show sold out within mere minutes. We just wanted to give you the good news that Tame Impala are on the bill.

MGMT stream ‘Congratulations’ for FREE

In some most excellent news, MGMT have decided to stream every track from their new album ‘Congratulations’ for free.

The second offering from the new yorkers is set to be a very different record from the smash debut Oracular Spectacular.

MGMT hit Australia for one night only

On the heels of announcing the release of their sophomore record Congratulations, MGMT will embark on a world tour, reaching our shores for one show only on April 6 in Sydney at Metro Theatre. MGMT will be playing selections from Congratulations, the follow up to their 2008 debut Oracular Spectacular.

MGMT’s music has been heralded worldwide for its fresh and unique style.  With Congratulations, MGMT unlock a new musical world whirling in its own space/time grid infused with hints of music from the past five decades.  Soulful and complex, Congratulations is a surprising and delightful quantum step forward in MGMT’s ongoing pop revolution.  Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum), Congratulations was recorded throughout 2009 in upstate New York, Malibu, and Brooklyn and features Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT’s core duo, performing with Matt Asti (bass, backing vocals), Will Berman (drums, backing vocals), and James Richardson (guitar, backing vocals), the band’s live line-up.

Due to the forecasted popularity of this show, a ticket limit of two per person will be enforced to ensure fans have maximum opportunity to secure tickets.

MGMT announce Congratulations

Electro-pop heavy weights MGMT have announced their sophomore studio album Congratulations, will be released in Australia on Friday, April 9.

One of 2010’s most eagerly anticipated new releases, Congratulations is the successor to MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular, the 2008 debut album which established the band’s potential as a visionary force in pop music.

The bands label Sony Music say “Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence,” of course, by this, they just mean there are nine tracks on the album. Sounds more like and extended EP to me…

Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, E.A.R., Spectrum), Congratulations was recorded throughout 2009 in upstate New York, Malibu, and Brooklyn and features Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT’s core duo, performing with Matt Asti (bass, backing vocals), Will Berman (drums, backing vocals), and James Richardson (guitar, backing vocals), the band’s live line-up.

Of course, none of these ‘individual musical tours de force’ of the ‘pop revolution’ will be released as a single. MGMT have stated they’re kickin’ it old school, taking the Zeppelin road less travelled and refusing to release singles from the new album. Time will tell if this actually happens.
